Rick Barnes Headed to Rocky Top

According to multiple outlets, Rick Barnes has been offered and accepted the job at Tennessee. The obvious negatives are that Tennessee has now had 3 different coaches in 3 years. The first coach, Cuonzo Martin, took the Vols to the Sweet 16 last year only to hear the fan base ask for Bruce Pearl to come back. He left for greener pastures to coach California. The second coach, Donnie Tyndall, was a catastrophe from the get-go. The school fired him last week for sanctions that were coming down from his previous job.

Besides Kentucky, the SEC is a crap-shoot when it comes to basketball. The Volunteers have shown promise in the past and Barnes may just want to shove it in the face of Texas by bringing Tennessee back to the promised land. The most obvious positive to this hire is that Barnes does not have to buy new ties since he’ll still be surrounded by obnoxious amounts of orange.
